Inverness Shipwreck + Cypress Tree Tunnel + Olema House + Tomales Point Trail. Inverness + Olema. California. 11.28.2025-11.29.2025.

I was supposed to have lunch with my friend in Petaluma on my way to Olema. Since she ended up having dental surgery and could not eat, I ended up being on the road a littler earlier after my walk around Healdsburg town square. I like to stop by the Inverness Shipwreck whenever I am here as I like to see its level of decomposition. It is much less a boat now this time around.

Then I went over to my beloved cypress tree tunnel. I am usually here by myself without any crowds, so it was quite different this time around with people. I definitely prefer my solo quiet times here amongst these covered giants.

Then I checked into my suite at Olema House. I had booked the Drake Suite again for this trip, and to my surprise and shock, it was not my previous suite. Apparently they renamed all their suites now to be the Drake Suite as the previous name for the other ones were not booking as well. Imagine my surprise when I got into my room to another suite. Now you know that you have to specify which suite you want if you are as specific as to which room you like when I travel. Suffice to say, it was an expensive unwelcomed surprise. The difference is that the original Drake Suite has a bay window with the beaded chandelier while the others have a balcony overlooking the creek.

Due to this mishap, I ended up spending a bit more time in the communal spaces and outside instead. Outdoor with my book by the creek was especially enjoyable.

The next morning, before I drove to my epic hike, I filled up at Point Reyes Roadhouse down the street. I would highly recommend their signature omelette. It was in fact so good that I returned the day after and got the same thing. Perfect for a hearty breakfast before a long hike.

It was a stunning 40 minute drive to Tomales Point Trail after breakfast. I had not done this hike before, so I chose this as my hero hike for this trip. It's all along the coast with the ocean view, additionally you are treated to tule elks along the way during the autumn and winter seasons. I could see the silhouettes of the elks when I was far away. As I got closer and closer, I had no idea exactly how close I would get to the elks, so I was happily surprised by how close they were to the trail all along both sides. It was magical seeing these majestic creatures graze and relax along the coast.
