The Madrona is a boutique property with interesting communal spaces for your enjoyment. I read Alchemised and had breakfast/coffees/tea all around the property. I also enjoyed perusing the art curation (by Dolby Chadwick Gallery) throughout.
I booked myself the Owner's Loft as I enjoy staying at places larger than my 400 square feet studio for getaways. Also, I thought this was the best fit for me design wise. It was lovely lazing around the loft, reading, taking baths, catching up with my friend, and admiring the fabulously quirky wall paper.
My room came with not one, but two bottles of booze from 1885: Fernet Branca and amaro. My friend and I had some of that vintage amaro on Thanksgiving. Look at that wall paper with designer Jay Jeffers (designer of the property) on one of the birds!
I met up with my colleague and his husband for dinner on my first night there. It was such a lovely meal and you are well taken care of foodwise at The Madrona on its property. There is also a fab chef's garden there so it's hyper farm to table.
edamame spread: warm pita bread, gremolata
chicory salad: grilled estate pear, blue cheese, fennel, toasted walnut, honey mustard balsamic
fried chicken
warm spiced olive oil cake: maple pecan glaze, pear chutney, vanilla ice cream
chocolate cremeux: salted peanut caramel, cookie crumble, toasted meringue
The next morning, I had a leisurely breakfast in the main sitting room in front of the fireplace and read. Then I wandered around the property before my friend showed up for our Thanksgiving meal.
This bathroom was too good to pass up a selfie.
Now the main event: Thanksgiving meal. The Thanksgiving meal at The Madrona does sell out each year. You should book early if you want to partake. It is a bit on the spendy side at $175 each, but quite festive and relaxing at the property. There is a vegetarian supplement for the main course. My friend and I loved our little celebration together and enjoyed the food tremendously.
Chips and Dip: Gruyere gougeres
Petite radish and cultured butter and salt
Garden Salad: candied pecans, fresh herbs, pomegranates, goat cheese
Roasted Vegetable Tarte Flambee: fromage blanc, caramelized onion, roasted winter vegetables
Turkey: sage roasted turkey, stuffing, potatoes, glazed carrots, gravy, cranberry sauce
Pumpkin Praline Tart: whipped creme fraiche
After packing up to relocate to Point Reyes for my nature inspired second half of my trip, I stopped by Quail & Condor on my way out of Healdsburg for a few baked goods and a coffee for breakfast in addition to doing a nice walk downtown. The couple behind Quail & Condor hails from 3 Michelin Starred Singlethread. I did not intend to get so much pastries, but I couldn't help myself when I saw their offerings. The laminations were some of the best I have ever had (including Paris). I even grabbed a few cookies to go as I knew I would not be having better pastries than these anywhere else.
